SAN FRANCISCO, California – Paravision, the U.S.-based leader in mission-critical computer vision, today announced that it has extended its accuracy leadership among western technology vendors in NIST’s February 2021 1:N Face Recognition Vendor Test Report. The latest report, which benchmarks Paravision’s 4th Generation face recognition technology, highlights a 25-30% reduction in error rates since Paravision’s last submission and continued #1 performance among all vendors from the U.S., UK, and European Union.

By design, the NIST FRVT reports are extensive and test many aspects of how face recognition algorithms perform. Highlights from the February 2021 FRVT report include:

  • Performance across different imaging types: Paravision was the #1 ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU and the #4 ranked vendor globally in both “Identification” and “Investigation” modes with mugshot and webcam images. Paravision’s error rate ranged between 20% and 3X better than the second-ranked provider from the U.S., UK, and EU across these different categories.
  • Performance in travel use cases: Paravision was the #1 ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU and the #6 ranked vendor globally for “Identification” mode with Visa / border images. Paravision’s error rate was more than 3X better than the second-ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU.
  • Performance at scale: Paravision was the #1 ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU and the #3 ranked vendor globally for “Investigation” mode with databases of 6 or 12 million images. Paravision’s error rate was 2-3X better than the second-ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU across these different tests.
  • Performance under ageing: Paravision was the #1 ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU and the #2 ranked vendor globally in “Investigation” mode when considering faces ageing for any amount of time between 2 and 18 years. Paravision’s error rate after 18 years was more than 3X better than the second-ranked provider from the U.S., UK, and EU.
  • Performance in challenging conditions: Paravision was the #1 ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU and the #2 ranked vendor globally for “Investigation” mode profile (i.e. 90 degree) images. Paravision’s error rate was more than 2X better than the second-ranked vendor from the U.S., UK, and EU.

The performance in this report is noteworthy not only because of the top-tier global performance and clear #1 ranking among vendors from the U.S., UK, and European Union, but also because the version submitted by Paravision did not use any data from the now-closed Ever photo storage service.

NIST FRVT is the gold-standard for benchmarking face recognition performance across a range of scenarios and meaningful datasets, and 1:N is the premier test within FRVT. As a U.S.-based AI company, we’re proud to deliver world-class accuracy and raise the bar for western technology providers.

Paravision has also taken a leadership position in the ethical development and conscientious sale of face recognition and AI technology, recently publishing its AI Principles and announcing the industry’s first Chief AI Ethics Advisor. The company provides its technology as a toolkit to enable a wide range of applications for trusted solution providers, rather than only offering vertically-oriented, stovepiped solutions.

Achieving this level of accuracy isn’t just about delivering safety and security. It’s also about enabling our partners to deliver transformative customer experiences and outstanding efficiency across the widest range of users and use cases.
